On Wednesday night, Quavo released “Without YOU,” a song in memory of his nephew and fellow Migos member Takeoff, who was fatally shot in Houston on November 1.
While smoking and taking in the track’s raw and emotional lyrics, Quavo is seen in the black and white video sitting in a studio with his eyes closed.
The song “Without You,” which is a genuine and melancholy recollection, has a visual of Quavo sitting dejectedly in a chair, smoking a joint, gazing down, and softly rocking while the music plays.
“Tears rolling down my eyes
Can’t tell you how many times I cried
Days ain’t the same without you
I don’t know if I’m the same without you.”
Quavo remembers many great and terrible periods in their lives and careers as the song progresses in a devastated yet warm and loving tone. Following that, the chorus begins:
“I wish I had a time machine
Just so you can take a ride with me
I miss how how you smile at me
Unc & Phew until infinity.”
The first two lines of that chorus conclude the song, but with the final lines :
“But I know it don’t work that way
Ima see you again some day.”
The song fades with Quavo singing “Taaaaake… I’m sorry.”

While the song was shared on Wednesday with the statement “Long Live Take Infinity” on his social media accounts, Quavo also released a much longer tribute a few weeks after Takeoff passed away.
“Up in the stars, out in the galaxy/ The chorus of the song by Migos begins, “Over the universe, it’s larger than Mars/See you in heaven, see you heaven/When I see you in heaven, I’ma be with my dog.”
Quavo reminisced their unbreakable friendship in a letter sent to “Take,” saying, “It’s very hard to tell you I’ll miss you since you were always with me and we did everything together. Since we were young, you have always stood by my side, your eyes fixed on mine as you waited for me to take the next step. In order to accomplish things properly with me, you always made sure I completed the task first. You and I were always on the same team; we never engaged in competition.
Offset, the third member of Migos, once discussed what makes Takeoff so unique in a Rolling Stone interview from 2018. He is frank and open with the individuals he fucks, but reserved around everyone else. He does a lot of analysis, which is why I believe his raps are so powerful, Offset stated. Takeoff has some powerful crap. He is simply powerful.
In the early hours of November 1, Takeoff (full name: Kirsnik Khari Ball) was shot and died at a bowling alley in downtown Houston where he and Quavo were attending a party with between 40 and 50 individuals where a dice game was going on. Takeoff was a “innocent bystander,” according to Houston police, and the two were not involved in the game or a quarrel that followed.
“I can assure you that Takeoff was not a part of the dice game, the outside debate, or the possession of any weapons.
At a news conference on December 2 where the arrest of Patrick Xavier Clark, a suspect in the shooting, on a murder charge, was revealed, Sgt. Michael Burrow stated that Clark was an innocent bystander. The incident occurred after an altercation that broke out outside the bowling facility during a private party that featured a profitable dice game, the man claimed.
“I will say that too many young men — and I will be more specific and say too many young men of colour — are murdering other young men,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner stated at the press conference. This needs to end.

Takeoff was honoured in a “Celebration of Life” on November 11 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, 10 days after his murder. Friends, admirers, family members, and colleagues from the music business attended the occasion. During the event, fellow musicians Drake and Justin Bieber performed, while Migos members Quavious “Quavo” Marshall and Kiari “Offset” Cephus gave moving addresses to the 21,000-person limit crowd.
