TEXAS CITY — Rapper Takeoff was shot and killed last month outside a Houston bowling alley, and police have arrested a 33-year-old man on rapper murder charges in the incident. According to police, Takeoff was a “innocent bystander” to the attack.
According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner on Friday, Patrick Xavier Clark was arrested calmly on Thursday night. In relation to the gunshot that left two other persons injured, Clark is the second person to be arrested.
In a brief court appearance, Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, both the prosecution and Clark’s defence team agreed to schedule a hearing on a bond reduction on December 14.
Clark was arrested last week on a $2 million bond after being charged with rapper murder. According to a court filing, when he was caught, he had a “huge” amount of cash on him and was planning to travel to Mexico on an expedited passport.
Rapper Takeoff, who was born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was the youngest member of the Grammy-nominated rap group Migos, which also included his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.
Nearly 30 people were leaving a private party when the 28-year-old rapper murder outside the downtown bowling alley at around 2:30 a.m., according to police. According to the police, at least two people opened fire, inflicting non-life-threatening wounds on a man and a woman.
After a dispute broke out outside the bowling alley following what was characterised as a “lucrative” dice game, Sergeant Michael Barrow referred to Takeoff during Friday’s briefing as a “innocent bystander.” Barrow said that Takeoff was not a part of either the dice game or the altercation.
Migos, which consisted of Rapper Takeoff, Quavo, 31, and Offset, 30, helped establish a new style of Southern rap following the release of their 2013 smash song “Versace.” Takeoff, the youngest member of the three, was consistently referred to by Quavo, who was also Takeoff’s uncle, as the group’s best lyricist. The funeral for Takeoff, an Atlanta-based quartet, was held on November 11 at the State Farm Arena, and thousands of people attended.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner stated about rapper murder on Friday that the performer was “much more than an artist; he was a son, a brother, a cousin, and a friend.” He continued, “Gun violence has to end.
Although about 30 individuals were outside the bowling alley when the rapper murder occurred, Finner stated that practically everyone left the area without making a remark. The police agency had to extensively depend on video evidence, forensic examination, and scene reconstructions in the absence of eyewitness statements, they claimed, to determine that suspect Clark was the case’s fatal shooter.
According to Finner, who along with Barrow and Turner frequently pleaded with the dozens of witnesses to come forward with information, the inquiry is still ongoing.
Cameron Joshua was taken into custody in relation to the shooting on Wednesday, according to the police. When rapper murder happened, the 22-year-old was accused of illegally possessing a gun, but Burrow claimed that police believe the rapper was murdered by Clark’s gunfire.
At a funeral gathering last month in Atlanta, fans and other performers—among them Drake and Justin Bieber—celebrated Takeoff’s musical legacy.
In a statement on Instagram, Quality Control, the record company for Migos, expressed sorrow on rapper murder and blamed it on “senseless violence.”
In 2013, Migos made their breakthrough with the huge smash “Versace.” Takeoff was not featured on their multi-week No. 1 single “Bad and Boujee,” which featured Lil Uzi Vert, but they still had four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The first two albums in their trilogy, “Culture,” “Culture II,” and “Culture III,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album list.
Just a few weeks before he passed away, Takeoff and Quavo dropped their collaborative album “Only Built for Infinity Links.”
