During Thursday’s ABC debut of the live TV musical, Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration paid touching tribute to the late Angela Lansbury.
The singing teapot known as Mrs. Potts was portrayed by Angela Lansbury in the Disney animated version of the movie released in 1991.
The TV, screen, and stage great “died quietly in her sleep” on October 11, according to her family.
Shania Twain Performed Angela Lansbury Tribute:
After Shania Twain finished performing the “Beauty and the Beast” song, a projection of Lansbury and the animated teapot with the years 1925–2022, in celebration of Lansbury’s 96 years of life, appeared behind her.
Shaina Twain, 57, earlier told Entertainment Weekly,
“I was much more thrilled to be invited to play that role. “I became really emotional while singing the theme song as a result. However, I was greatly soothed by the presence of [the film’s composer] Alan Menken on stage with me, playing the piano.” She continued, “Performing his own song with him there next to me was such an incredible moment in my career. “It was crucial to me that I played the part gracefully and with style.””a sense of humour that was stimulated by Angela’s allure. Achievements of Angela Lansbury:
Her legacy includes six Tony Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, an American National Medal of the Arts, a Kennedy Center Honor, an honorary Oscar, and a 2014 damehood from Queen Elizabeth. She is most remembered for her performance on Murder, She Wrote.
Alongside Josh Groban playing her beast, H.E.R. co-starred with Twain in the lead role of Belle. Martin Short played Lumiére, David Alan Grier played Cogsworth, Joshua Henry played Gaston, Rizwan Manji played LeFou, Jon Jon Briones played Maurice, and Leo Abelo Perry played Chip. Rita Moreno acted as the narration.
In 2016, at the 25th anniversary showing of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in New York City, Lansbury stunned the audience by singing the film’s theme song.
It was the first time Lansbury had performed the song live in more than twenty years. Like Twain, she was joined by composer Menken, 73.
The renowned performer and actress also delivered a flawless performance, including performing Mrs. Potts’ iconic farewell to her animated teacup kid as part of the encore.
She instructed Chip to “run along again to the cabinet” while the audience cheered. Good night, love.
