Babylon 2022 Movie Reviews

The global premiere of Damien Chazelle’s Babylon took place on December 23, 2022. Early reviews of the film were a little bit split, but the more recent evaluations, which can also be seen on Twitter, seem to have given the film a general disapproval.

The movie (Babylon) was one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2022, especially because it was directed by Academy Award winner Damien Chazelle and starred some of the biggest Hollywood personalities.

It takes place in Hollywood in the 1920s when talkies began to replace silent movies.

Famous actors including Jean Smart, Samara Weaving, Katherine Waterston, Li Jun Li, Jovan Adepo, and Tobey Maguire are also featured in the movie.

The uncontrolled decadence that characterised the time period is primarily depicted, highlighted by drug-fueled wild parties and wealthy people speeding by in their expensive vintage vehicles.

In other words, movie is a hedonistic showcase for the popular jazz music of the day.

The first trailer for Babylon, which debuted on December 13 to mostly positive reviews, was well received. Robbie was the target of a lot of the compliments.

In the middle of November, the movie was given special showing in the US for certain well-known reviewers. In the early reviews, some of them applauded the aesthetics, while others thought the plot was lacklustre.

The overall rating of movie on Rotten Tomatoes decreased as more reviewers gave their assessment of the film, from almost 90% to barely 59% based on 155 reviews (as of 23 December). It appears that viewers have also disliked the movie. On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience judgement awards the movie a paltry 53 percent overall based on 50 confirmed reviews.

Babylon, a film set in the 1920s, depicts a more nasty side of Hollywood where aspirations are formed and crushed in a society where vice reigns supreme and the results of falling into a partying pit can only be disastrous.

Robbie and other actors have received universal acclaim for their roles in the film, despite the fact that the majority of criticism has centred on the film’s production.

Robbie garnered a nomination for Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy out of the five Golden Globe nominations the movie received in 2023. Additionally, she has been recognised with a Best Actress nomination at the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards.

Because of this, the Australian actress is a serious possibility for her third nomination for an Academy Award in 2023.

Despite the film’s unfavourable reviews, there has been a lot of talk about Margot Robbie possibly receiving another Oscar nod for her work in it. Robbie has received mainly positive reviews from critics, though not much else, and it appears that viewers have, regrettably, concurred on this rare occasion.

The odd thing about the film is that while early reviews were mostly favourable, as more came in, the movie’s ratings began to decline. Although there will be more opportunities for people to see the film in January, many may decide against spending more than three hours watching it because of the influx. Filmitales will hopefully be capable of turning her luck around with next year’s Barbie, which has generated so much buzz that the concept of it being a disaster is almost unthinkable right now. Stranger things have, however, lately occurred, so we will have to wait until the movie’s July 21, 2023, release.
